BENGALURU: The eighth edition of EKUVERIN, the Indo-Maldives 14-working day joint army workout will be held in Belagavi from Friday.

The previous edition of the bilateral yearly workout between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Drive was held at Kadhdhoo, Lammu Atoll, Maldives in December 2016.

“The Physical exercise named ‘EKUVERIN’ signifies “pals” in the Maldivian language, and the target of the workout is to acquaint equally armies with each other’s running methods in the backdrop of a counter insurgency or counter terrorist functions in an city or semi city natural environment below the United Nations (UN) charter, with an all round intention to enrich interoperability between the two armies,” the ministry of defence (MoD) reported in a assertion.

The Maldivian National Defence Drive will be represented by a group comprising two officers and 43 Other Ranks, while the Indian Army will be represented by 3 officers, 3 Junior Commissioned Officers and 39 Other Ranks belonging to a Gorkha Rifles Battalion (Sirmoor Rifles).
